It is primarily in Brittany, and more broadly in western France, that the office develops its work, refines its methods and builds lasting collaborations. Trained in Paris and educated in Nantes where the critical legacy of modernity was taught, its co-directors, Maxime Le Trionnaire and Gwénaël Le Chapelain, recently joined by Aurélie Morel and Fanny Larhantec, have been developing an architecture of negotiation on the city’s fringes, within the meandering paths of the diffuse, and on buildings awaiting renovation. Since the creation of the MG endowment fund, the office has also been committed to promoting contemporary art, supporting artists and designers along the Ria of Étel, in Morbihan. Alta’s rootedness is tangible: to work here, over time, is to know the soils, the regulations, the contractors, the local politics and the seasons.
